Living on Isla Margarita
Why families arriving from outside Venezuela tend to look here first, and what to actually ask about.
Isla Margarita is an island off the north east coast, in the state of Nueva Esparta. It has an international airport and daily flights to the mainland, roughly forty minutes and usually well under a hundred dollars. For people arriving from outside the country it is generally the easiest place to start, and it is where we are based.
What people actually ask
The questions we get from families are almost never about investment returns. They are about schools, healthcare, what daily life costs, how you get money in and out, what is sensible about personal safety, and what happens if something goes wrong.
Those are the right questions. They are also the ones that are hardest to answer from a search engine, because the honest answer usually depends on which part of the island, what your children's ages are, and what you are used to.
What we can tell you
We live here. We can walk you through the areas, tell you which schools people we know actually use, explain how healthcare works in practice, and be straight with you about what is easy and what is not. What we will not do is tell you it is simple, or that everywhere is the same.
A thirty minute conversation is usually enough to work out whether this is realistic for your family, and what you would need to find out next.
